"Sphinx Organization: Changing the Face of Classical Music" (Creative Impact Michigan 02.09.12)
Violinist Aaron Dworkin grew up one of very few classical musicians of color. In response, he founded The Sphinx Organization 15 years ago to help overcome the cultural stereotype of classical music and to encourage the participation of Blacks and Latinos in the field. Thanks to efforts like his, orchestra halls across the country and even the world have begun to diversify. Classical Change is a unique video it uses no words, but demonstrates two different approaches to company organisation and structure through action set to music. There are two sequences in the main video. The first shows a traditional, hierarchical organisation people work in a regimented, systematic way. The second a new, dynamic organisation where people come together to solve problems, and teams are created to address specific needs. It can be used to initiate team discussion and investigation of alternative approaches to problem solving. Who could benefit? Nashville Celebration of Cultures Festival Royal Lao Classical Dancers 01Oct2011 1_42pm
Dance of Garuda Nashville Celebration of Cultures Festival Centennial Park Royal Lao Classical Dancers 01Oct2011 1_42pm. The Garuda are enormous predatory birds with intelligence and social organization. Another name for the Garuda is suparṇa, meaning "well-winged, having good wings". They combine the characteristics of animals and divine beings. Garudas are the great golden-winged Peng birds. They also have the ability to grow large or small, and to appear and disappear at will. Their wingspan is 330 yojanas (one yojana being 40 miles long). With one flap of its wings, a Peng bird dries up the waters of the sea so that it can gobble up all the exposed dragons. With another flap of its wings, it can level the mountains by moving them into the ocean. It was told that Garuda overcame many heavenly beings in order to gain the ambrosia (amrita) elixir. No one was able to get the better of him, not even Narai (Vishnu). At last, a truce was called and an agreement was made to settle the rancor and smooth all the ruffled feathers. If was agreed that when Narai is in his heavenly palace, Garuda will be positioned in a superior status, atop the pillar above Narai's residence. However, whenever Narai wants to travel anywhere, Garuda must serve as his transport.
